BBC Media Action recrute : Interpreter and Administrative Assistant

The Interpreter and Administrative Assistant will be responsible for interpretation for the project for consultants, experts, trainers and project staff during meetings, workshops and on-the-job training. The job also includes translation of written documents as necessary.

Additional responsibilities will be supporting on office and project administration functions of BBC Media Action in Tunisia, including logistics, maintaining databases and other administrative tasks to ensure the smooth running of the office.

Main Duties

Interpretation
• Provide interpretation from Arabic to English and English to Arabic (and if possible from French to Arabic and Arabic to French) for project activities, for example during training courses, workshops and meetings with the partner broadcaster (Watania) and the audio-visual regulatory body (the HAICA).

Translation
• Provide written translations from Arabic to English and English to Arabic (and if possible from French to Arabic and Arabic to French) as required. This might be in various formats e.g. word documents, Power Point presentation slides, subtitles/scripts for audio-visual work.

Logistics
• Work with BBC Media Action Tunisia team and London projects support team on aspects of the project that require administrative and organisational support.
• Support the coordination of all aspects of training workshops, visits, events, seminars and study tours. Including but not limited to, field visits, accommodation booking, travel booking, meeting and greeting etc.
• Liaise with partners on logistical arrangements for visits and workshops.

General Office Administration
• Support with logistics of meetings e.g. greeting visitors, coordinating refreshments as required.
• Keep project records up to date e.g., list and contact details of trainees trained
• Administration support e.g., scanning and printing documents

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Essential
• Fluency in Arabic and English
• Proficiency in interpretation and translation from Arabic to English and English to Arabic
• Proven experience in consecutive interpretation (Arabic-English-Arabic), preferably in media-related sector.
• Proven experience in written translation (Arabic-English-Arabic)
• Attention to detail and a concern for accuracy
• Good interpersonal skills to establish effective working relationships with all staff within Media Action and key stakeholders externally.
• Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.

Desirable
• Interpretation degree is desired but not essential if the candidate can prove experience working as an interpreter for a sufficient length of time or a similar type of organisation.
• Previous experience working with foreign international organisations or media outlets is desirable.
• Experience in simultaneous translation is an asset.
• Candidates who also have the ability to interpret and translate from French to Arabic and Arabic to French will have a clear advantage.
• Knowledge of media regulation and/or TV production terminology would be additional assets.
• Proven experience in managing logistical and administrative functions would be preferable, as would willingness and ability to take the initiative not only in identifying problems but also in suggesting and implementing solutions.
